The fine print
Refunds, privacy, terms and the calculators, on one page, in plain words. Questions? Email us.
Refunds and returns
If something arrives broken or isn't what you ordered, email us within 30 days of delivery with a photo and we'll replace it or refund it, your call. Made-to-order items, which is most of what we sell, can't be returned for a change of mind once they've been built. Shipping back to us is on you unless we got it wrong.
Trail use
Our tools are built for trail repairs and we use them on our own trucks. They are not a substitute for a shop, a lift, or knowing what you're doing. If a tool fails in normal use, tell us; we want to know and we'll make it right.
Privacy
We collect what we need to ship you something or reply to you: name, email, shipping address, and the answers you give on the application or partner forms. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see or store your card number.
The list
If you join the list we send trip announcements and finalist news. No promos, no selling the list, and every email has an unsubscribe link that works.
If you tap Notify me on a product, we keep your email, the product and the size or version you picked, and send you one email when it's ready. Then we delete it. It doesn't add you to the list.
Applications
Applications are read by the two of us only. If you aren't selected we delete your application and keep only your email, for one year, as part of the list. Finalists are announced publicly by name, rig and state; nothing else from your application is shared without asking you first.
Photos and film
Attendees sign a release before the trip. Partners get a photo set with stated usage terms. We don't use anyone's likeness commercially without a signed release.
Analytics
We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics and PostHog. Neither sets cookies or follows you to other sites. We see which pages get read, what gets clicked, which sites sent people here, and roughly what country they're in, and nothing that tells us who you are. Your cart lives in your own browser until you check out.
Terms of service
By buying from us or applying to the trip you agree to the above, and to the following: prices are in US dollars and can change without notice; we can refuse or cancel an order and will refund it in full if we do; everything on this site is ours unless credited otherwise, so ask before reusing it.
Long Range Desert Tools LLC, a Maine limited liability company. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maine.
Build Planner
The calculators, vehicle pages and leaderboards are free tools to help you plan a build and understand your truck. They inform your decisions; they don't make them for you, and they don't replace your truck's manuals, a qualified shop or your own judgment.
The numbers
Factory figures come from maker brochures, spec sheets, body builder guides, government data, magazines and owner measurements, and each one is sourced in our research files. Some are marked unconfirmed on the page because we haven't matched them to a factory document yet. Everything else, from tire height and gearing to angles, clearance, link geometry, brakes, fuel economy and power, is our own estimate worked out from those figures. Real trucks vary with options, wear, load, tire pressure and aftermarket parts, so your numbers will differ. If you find one that's wrong, email us and we'll fix it.
Use at your own risk
Check every number against your own truck before you buy parts, cut, weld, lift, regear, tow or drive on it. You use the calculators and their results at your own risk. To the fullest extent the law allows, Long Range Desert Tools is not liable for any damage, injury or loss that comes from relying on them, and they are provided as they are, without any warranty that they are accurate, complete or fit for your build.
What we keep
Your rig, tire sizes, lift and gears are saved in your own browser so they carry across the calculators; we don't receive them. Anything you put in a calculator shows up in the page address so you can share results, so anyone you send a link to sees those numbers. If you send us your link mount measurements, we keep them with the name or handle and email you give, use them to improve the data for that truck, and may publish the measurements. We never publish your email. We count clicks on shopping links to see which ones get used. Shopping links go to the retailer's own site under its own terms; we don't earn anything from them today, and if that changes we'll say so here.
Names and drawings
Vehicle makes and model names belong to their owners and are used only to say which truck a figure applies to. We aren't affiliated with or endorsed by any vehicle maker. The vehicle drawings are ours.
About the trip
The trip is a group ride among friends. There is no entry fee and no service is sold. Every attendee is responsible for their own vehicle, safety, costs and conduct, and signs a waiver and likeness release before the start. Off-road travel is dangerous; nobody is obligated to drive anything they don't want to.
